Bill Shanks adding Greinke to the mix?
This article makes some interesting points, though I wouldn't give everyone Shanks mentions especially Flowers. Like he states, Peavy is a legitimate no.1 ace, while Greinke is a potential, plus 4 or 5 yrs. of Peavy with just 2 of Greinke is no comparison. Drop it to Escobar and Hernandez and Reyes with them giving Greinke and maybe another A-ball or rookie ball prospect and I would be satisfied. I am not worried about the SS vacancy as some are, Furcal may come back, and yes some may say it will cost a lot, but the Braves seem willing to spend money again, so who knows. Renteria just does not play well in the AL, so maybe a return to a comfortable place rejuvenates him again. One last note, I would want to lock Greinke up to an extension before the trade went through. Thoughts?

This proposal makes so much sense, and I like it a lot better than trading for Peavy. I love Greinke’s stuff, he’s younger, and cheaper. And the Royals need position players badly. I wonder if we throw in Frenchy if we could get back Billy Butler.
Unfortunately, I’m pessimistic this going down.

Ummmmm
He’s a good pitcher on a bad team. How does he fair against geat teams? I really dont know to much about him but giving up frency for him is not a good idea. Frency had one bad year and we cant give up on him too quickly. If we were to ever trade Francy I rather trade him for a true Ace like Holladay. Same thing goes for Escobar and I am not to sold on signing my man Furcal. Unless we can move Escobar to second base and trade Kelly for an outfielder like Carlos Lee or Maggalio Ordonez, or even our guy Jermaine Dye

I was referring to throwing in Frenchy if we could get Billy Butler in return…there’s no doubt in my mind Billy Butler is a better player. And this is coming from someone whose favorite player the last few years has been Jeff Francoeur.

yeah, trading for an abysmal fielder who was born to be a DH is a phenomenal idea.

Well, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I’d much rather have Butler’s offensive potential and his inferior defense to Frenchy’s combo. of course I hope Frenchy bounces back this year, but Butler is a better offensive player all-around.

where are you gonna put him? a corner OF spot? don’t make me laugh. that would be an absolute joke.

He plays LF and 1B. I don’t think his defense in the OF is any worse than Dunn’s.
You know what I think is an absolute joke? Francoeur having the 3rd or 4th lowest OPS of ANY MLB starter. And two players ahead of him are Juan Pierre and Julio Lugo, two guys that can actually do something on the base paths when they do get on base. So unless Frenchy picks it up this year, yes, I would much rather have Butler’s defense and his offense (his potential for offensive greatness is much higher) than Frenchy’s good defense but piss poor offense. It’s my opinion, that’s all.

No Sir
Big difference is that Greinke is only under contract for 2 years before he is a free agent. The point of Peavy is that we have him for four, possibly five years. Huge difference.

Talk is that Peavy would want to lock down that club option if he is traded.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

I’m pretty sure Greinke’s been talked about since day one of this off-season.
I think your proposal of players is still too much. I’ve now reserved myself to not wanting to let Escobar go, period.

I'm with you
but I have to say it appears the Braves are dead set on moving him (hey, I said appears). I hope not, attitude or no I like the kid.

I don’t know that Wren will be trading for another pitcher any time soon. This Peavey thing may have left a bitter taste in his mouth.

If I don’t trade Escobar for Peavy, I don’t trade him for Greinke.

is it weird that i get a hard-on when thinking about aquiring Greinke?

Not if it's actually Greinke who does it for you
That’s perfectly normal for 5-10 of the population. But baseball transactions should NOT give you an erection. I see a trip to your family doctor in your future…

I would be more than happy to get rid of Francouer. With the way he swings he is going to be prone to having years like he just had maybe not as bad but still some off years. He should hit for power but he doesn’t and he should steal more bases but he doesn’t. His defense took a step back last year to. I would give them Flowers, Reyes, Boyer, and Prado, for Greinke and Dan Gutierrez.

Your last comment...
That you’d like to lock up Greinke before doing a deal; that’s the only reason KC is thinking of trading him, is that he’s said he wants to play it out to reach free agency. You’d have him for 2 years, and then he’s on the market. We’d likely get 2 draft picks when he leaves though, so 2 years of good pitching and 2 picks… not a bad deal.
