It looks as though our catcher, Brian McCann, has won his second Silver Slugger award as the best hitting catcher in the National League. Here is my article on him winning in 2006. Here are McCann's stats this year:

Surprised Soto didn't get it
Grats to Heap.
But D Wright over Chipper at 3rd? Really?

AB R H HR RBI BB SB BA OBP SLG
Chipper 439 82 160 22 75 90 4 0.3645 0.4700 0.5740
Wright 626 115 189 33 124 94 15 0.3019 0.3905 0.5335
I wanted to comlain but those are the nbrs and in reality Wright had a better year, mostly because he was healthier.. obviosuly if u extrapolate Larry Wayne’s nbrs to the equal nbr of ABs, he blows David Wright out of the water, but we cant do that. It sucks because CHipper is the better hitter… but he simply didnt play in enough games.

128 games of Chipper > 160 games of Wright in 2008
Here’s some sabermetric stats courtesy of Beyond the Boxscore and some guy named Justin.
Basically Chipper is 66 runs above a replacement 3B and Wright is 62 runs offensively. These are counting stats and not rate stats. That .470 OBP with power is just amazing. Gonna create a lot of runs when you make outs a little over half the time.
And for kicks, defensively, Chipper was 15 above replacement and Wright was 5 above.

Last year I argued that Chipper should have won the GG over Wright and I was probably wrong in saying that. But this year it’s a joke that Wright walked away with it. Plain and simple.
I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

I liked Zimmerman last year
or maybe Feliz. But, yeah, a lot of metrics had Chipper at or near the top of fielding for NL 3B’s for 2008.

What do you guys think…Jeter with the SS? He had a better BA and OBP, but Peralta had more HR, RBI, and higher SLG, OPS.
It doesn’t surprise me that Jeter got it, but I dunno…

Jeter is a Yankee, and Peralta is an Indian. And his name is spelled funny, and he looks like D-Lo Brown from the WWF.
But it’s not like any other shortstop in the entire American League screams out like Jeter does. Much like my debate over the ROY, there’s a factor of noise and attention one brings, and Jeter being on the Yankees already puts him ahead of everyone else, he just needs to put up satisfactory stats to back it.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Or Mike Aviles
With NOMAH, Tejeda, and A-Rod no longer a threat, I think Jeter gets if if he hits above .280.

I know Brian McCann’s secret: He has a beard. All great men have beards.

It’s No Shave November, everyone should have a beard right now, regardless of their prowess at growing one. Let the peach fuzz free!

Does a goatee count?
What about tremendous amounts of back hair?
by buzzdeadwax on Nov 14, 2008 5:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
That’s just plain wrong! Also, transplanted pubes don’t count either.

No transplanted pubes here
Just good, old-fashioned back hair. Although I won’t rule out transplants if I keep losing hair on my head. I’m telling you, it just ain’t right!
