Different Idea for LF in '09

Why not move KJ back to LF (assuming he is not traded) so the front office can get Prado the AB's they desperately want to give him (I'm personally not a fan of a Prado as an everyday player) without having to trade KJ to do it. I'm not in love with any of the free agent's or the contracts they seek (Dunn, Burrell, Bradley, etc...) and while I am open to a trade for an OF I have not heard any names that pique my interest. I personally would like to see them make a move for Hermida as I would imagine he has to be arbitration eligible soon and Florida is shedding salary quickly.

Starters would be:

LF-Johnson; CF- Schafer; RF-Francouer

1B-Kotchman; 2B-Prado; 3B-Chipper; C-McCann; SS-Escobar (if traded Lillibridge or FA i.e Furcal/Cabrera/Izturis)

SP if Peavy Trade:

Peavy / Burnett / Jurrjens / Campillo / Hanson

SP if no Peavy Trade:

Burnett / Jurrjens / Campillo / Morton / Hanson

*I'm assuming a signing of AJ Burnett in the scenario's above

I'm not interested in Garland, Lowe, or Dempster for multiple years at big money

I think its a nice mix of youth and veterans in the lineup who can be decent to good while we let guys refine their skills (Schafer, Johnson, Frenchy, McCann) and wait for reinforcements in a couple of  years (Heyward, Freeman, Flowers, Hicks, Campbell)

Johnson turns into a throughly average or worse left fielder by moving. That’s not really the best idea out there. Might as well run out Gregor Blanco and watch him play plus defense and get on-base and keep Johnson at 2B where he’s an asset.

That and the fact we need a right handed batter to combat all the lefty pitchers in our division. Prado is not that guy!

that and the one season he played LF he had to have TJ surgery the next year

and who picks up the power we desperately need?

Who picks up the power?

FRENCHY!!! That’s who.

*Groan*

Is it too much to hope that Frenchy will turn it around?

The only reason this is funny is because of how incredibly angry it makes me…

I guess I should be one to talk.
There's nights that I can't even walk.
There's days I couldn't give a fuck.
And in between is where I'm stuck.

Different Mind Set!

I would like a power hitting LF. Kelly is going to be a great baseball player and he is going to be one at 2B. No need to move him again, he’s getting confortable at his position(Yes, I know he drop the potential game ending flyout vs Phillies) but with patience he might one day win a gold glove.

LF in mind:
Maggalio Ordonez, yes, old but he can still hit
Carlos Lee, 32, yes my favorite of all, I would die if we were to able get this guy. Fits what we are looking for.Plays LF, is a right handed batter, yes he was hurt but that was his finger, not leg or arm. He still manage to drive in 100 and hit 28hr in 115 games

Not enough HR's

Offensively, Kelly is an above avg 2B and a below avg LF. In an ideal market we should be able to trade an above avg 2B for an above avg LF.

why not do it?

Why is everyone so bent on Schafer starting as the centerfielder? It’s not gonna happen. Even if he hits .400 in spring training, Gregor Blanco and Josh Anderson are going to have to die for him to make the team. The kid is 22 and he still has some developing to do. When he’s ready, he’ll be there, and I for one think he’ll be there for a long time, but it won’t be to start 2009.

couldnt agree more

"We win today, that's two in a row... if we win tomorrow, that's called a winning streak. It has happened before..."

I’m not sure KJ’s arm can make the throws from the outfield anymore. He was moved to the infield because of elbow surgery, and I don’t know that he ever regained the full strength he had before the surgery, or how the wear and tear of a full season in the OF would affect him.

kelly johnson is a good hitter for a middle infielder.

kelly johnson is not a good hitter for a corner outfielder.

its that simple, really.
