Andruw Jones might ask for a trade...
...his team of choice? Would it suprise anyone if he wanted to return to the Braves? Rumor and speculation around Dodgers blogs is that Andruw will want to start in center next year for the Dodgers (yeah, right) or ask for a trade. Personally, I don't know if I can take anymore heartbreak from one of my favorite Braves of yesteryear, but would the Braves bite on taking a huge chance on a discounted Andruw bouncing back if he returned home? I don't know, my head says "no," but my heart says "why not?" Any opinions?
Jones has told friends that he plans to approach the Dodgers and ask them to trade him. After hiding their excitement, the Dodgers will then have to find a suitor and determine how much of the $22.1 million they still owe him that they'll have to eat.

They’ll have to eat at least $18 million and only ask for a very marginal prospect in return. That’s the only way he’ll be traded.
It’s probably crazy, but if Jordan Schafer isn’t ready and if we can get Andruw for pennies, I think I’d do it. If he tanks, he could always be released.
The problem is, Bobby was always overly loyal to Andruw and having him back with Bobby scares me because of what could potentially happen.

having him back with Bobby scares me because of what could potentially happen.
What, having Bobby automatically insert him back into the clean-up spot behind Chipper, and watching him collapse and screw himself into the batter’s box trying to dead-pull homers to the Bud Light sign? Or hit into bases-loaded, game-ending Vidros with the tying-run at 3rd? Or just the piling numbers of rally-killing strike outs?
Yeah, that’s a little pessimistic, but he’s shown zero proof that he will improve from the regression that led him out of Atlanta, and has unfortunately gone completely the other way, and fast. He was last seen playing 1B in Las Vegas, for the Dodgers AAA squad to close out the 2008 season.
No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Aw come on!!!
for what the Dodgers are paying him, I’d just get room service!

Haha
Funny thought – you know those occasional lots you walk by on the Strip, where you could rent Maseratis, Ferraris, Aston Martins, high-end Mercedes, etc, etc?
Kind of reminds me of Andruw’s car collection. Maybe he won’t mind staying in AAA-Las Vegas for the remainder of his career, he could rent out his cars to supplement his income and cost of living.

I’d be open to it if he can get in shape and the Dodgers agree to pay almost all of his 2009 salary. Wouldn’t mind inserting him in either CF or LF and having him occasionally play 1B against lefties. Obviously his role would be greatly reduced from what it’s been in the past, but if he could help us and be a low-cost low-risk gamble, I say go for it.

If that happens, I think it scares me that our lineup could look like this next year:
Prado
Kotchman
C. Jones
A. Jones
McCann
Francoeur
Diaz
Greene
But I bet our pitching staff would be great, though they would likely have an average of one run per game to work with. Lookout 100 losses… here we come!

I know you’re not advocating this lineup, but that still doesn’t make it right – it made me dry-heave.

If thats our lineup
Frank Wren should be fired. Then shot.

HAHA with that hitting lineup Peavy may win 8 games for us next year. If Peavy thought San Diego’s hitting was bad, wait until he sees the run support he gets next year. 8 wins and then a trip to Dr. Andrews sounds about right.

What’s the general consensus on Andruw’s collapse? Is it the weight problem, injuries? I’ve never seen a player fall so far so fast.
by TradeAndruw on Oct 31, 2008 3:27 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Personally, I think the weight piled on as a result of the injuries. I think his plate struggles may simply be a result of overthinking (kinda like FYF). Additionally, pitchers have figured out that he is ALWAYS trying to pull the ball and ALWAYS trying to knock the cover off of it. He may fare better if he just takes a step back and trys hitting the other way, and working on just getting the ball over the infielders’ heads. Plus, losing a few wouldn’t hurt him either…

Bring him back
Unless we can get another Kotsay type player in CF, I say bring him back. I’m not sold on the centerfielders we have and unless Schafer can handle the job, we need someone with more upside than what we have. Yes, I know he’s crap right now, but maybe he can go see a shrink and a dietician and become the player he used to be. Could you imagine a 2005 Andruw and only having to pay a few mil?

Can you even imagine...
Andruw ever playing like that again? Because after the last two years, I’d be happy with a .200/.280/.370 season if I were him.

No, I can’t really imagine it but stranger things have happened. Hell, I’d be happy with his 26 HR 2007 season. 26 HR may lead the team next year if we don’t get a bomber for LF.

please no
how bad does he have to be before you all finally write him off. seriously. i remember when people would defend him during his terrible 2006-07 campaign. let it go. he’s done.

A. Jones has had his time with Atlanta
While I agree that Schafer is young as well as some of the other prospects we have bringing back AJ is not the answer. You have to have someone hitting behind Chipper that can actually hit. I don’t know who that is, maybe Magglio is an option but not Andruw. That magic is gone. Leave him alone.
I really hope Wren puts together a deal for Peavy…

peavy is a decent hitter, but he cant hit behind Chipper

I don’t think it’s a fair stretch to say that Blanco, Anderson, and Schafer could outperform Andruw in 2009.
by beeniez on Nov 2, 2008 4:18 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
In fact, I’d rather see Infante, Lillibridge, and Norton in centerfield before I want to see Andruw.
by beeniez on Nov 2, 2008 4:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
well what if we got Andruw for a cheap price plus signed Mark Kotsay. They could split time in center and Kotsay could fill in for Kotchman at first too if he needs a day off. Then that gives us the ability to get Maggs and Peavy.
Prado
Kotchman
Chipper
Maggs
McCann
Andruw/Kotsay
Frenchy
Greene
Peavy
Lowe
Jair Jurrjens
Campillo
Hampton/ Tommy Hanson

I like the rotation, but...
…it looks like you’ve traded KJ and Yunel for Peavy. That’s probably not going to happen.

Not to mention...
…Prado is NOT a lead off hitter.
