Because we Need another Jake Peavy Update...

From Ken Rosenthal:

The Braves and Padres remain at an impasse in their trade discussions concerning right-hander Jake Peavy, sources say.

The Padres are believed to be asking for five players, knowing the Braves parted with that many when they acquired first baseman Mark Teixeira and left-hander Ron Mahay from the Rangers.

Of course, the players and combinations remain fluid, and the final package could hinge on whether the Braves take back shortstop Khalil Greene as a replacement for Yunel Escobar, who likely would be included in the deal.

For the moment, the Braves remain opposed to trading Class AA right-hander Tommy Hanson, who has pitched 8 2/3 scoreless innings in the Arizona Fall League and could be in the Atlanta rotation next season.

The Padres' discussions with other clubs about Peavy also are quiet, but the talks are certain to resume next week at the general managers' meetings in Dana Point, Ca.

Does the swap of Escobar for Greene make this trade a loser for the Braves? I know Peavy's all that, but Greene's a perennial under performer.

I expect the "rumors" will really pick up heading into those GM meetings.

I'm not a fan of Khalil Greene

so no, I do not really want him, but I figured the Pads would want to send him with Peavy to clear salary.

Imagine

Jeff Francoeur and Khalil Greene batting back-to-back in an order.

It’s pretty obvious that the Padres are including (read: forcing) Greene in the package to unload the $11 mil contract he signed earlier this year, and I don’t think the squad needs that kind of financial ballast. Even if they cover a chunk of it, I just don’t want to lose Escobar.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

Definitely.

It defeats the purpose of trading for Peavy if we’re giving up quality players that we can’t readily replace on our 25 man roster. Just say no to Khalil Greene.

Khalil Green did go to Clemson

I know he’s from California, I think that’s right, but he was an awesome shortstop right here next door in South Carolina. Of course Clemson has always been the classic underachiever in every sport, yes including Baseball. So it’s not like he’s not familar with the region and he was a huge standout at Clemson so maybe that could be a good thing. I would HATE, absolutely HATE to loose Yunel, but some boys that know the region (Peavy and Greene) wouldn’t be a bad thing.

the padres are being fucking tards about this, knowing the braves won’t give up any of their top guys, but keeping asking for them. wren should just not return any of towers’s calls, and if he wants to deal him so bad, frank will get a call in january asking for a lesser package of dudes

Following the Braves...one long hard drink at a time.

Maybe Kahlil just needs a change of scenary…I’d be down for a trade involving Yunel and Kahlil…

Amazingly...

he was worse on the road than he was at cavernous Petco!

NO!

I love watching Yunel play, and of course, no other reason is needed to keep him.

Plus, do we really want this guy—-

playing shortstop?

He does indeed look like that, and this year he hit about as well as Spicoli would have…

Are the Padres/Towers Retarded?

The only difference between Peavy and Sabathia is salary. If you throw in Greene’s wasted salary, that makes their salaries a wash, right? So what GM in their right mind would trade Yunel AND prospects just to get the type of pitcher they can get without giving up the young players who are so vital to the future of their organization? Hell, I’d rather see FW sign Sheets for 5 yrs/$80mil than trade for Peavy/Greene, which equates to 5 yrs/92mil (potentially). Sheets is injury-prone, but Peavy has shown some indicators that he could be headed in that direction. At least Sheets will only cost the Braves their second-round draft pick.

I agree, I agree

I think Greene has been such a bust ever since he got to the Majors. Yunel can be a franchise guy we can all enjoy watching grow and get better each year. I’m starting to get more and more tired of the Peavy rumors. Not saying we don’t need him! But lets not rush it! We are apparently the leader in acquiring him and the 2009 season is months away. Dont blow this FW! Be PATIENT!!!

that is the best news ive heard since the Phillies won

Not sure if anyone's aware

The last two seasons, on SI.com, there was a point in December when there was an MLB headline that included the word “Chris” and “Reitsma.” “Released by Braves, signs with M’s to bolster bullpen (lol),” or “M’s do not offer contract to Chris Reitsma.”

I told myself “Wow, the off-season(s) must be REALLY slow, if Chris Reitsma’s making headlines. I don’t think it’s possible for things to sink any further.”

Next day, there were several headlines of guys making money in arbitration, disputing their arbitration value, but of better known guys, like Ryan Howard, Chad Cordero, etc. And then the following day, there were more articles. And then it became this steady increase of baseball news and anticipation, and before anyone knew it, it was time for pitchers and catchers to report. Then the position players. And then all of a sudden the Braves and Dodgers were playing a spring training game on ESPN. And then the season was upon us. And then we lost to the Nationals and Pirates.

Bottom line is that I’m not sure if it’ll happen again, but there will always be a point in the off-season where a Chris Reitsma makes the headlines, and then things can only go up from there. It was a beautiful realization.

No wonder nobody likes you, Tuttle... everything's a (Pujols) damn debate.

What about Tyler Gaytes?

by jjcollins on Oct 30, 2008 8:18 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You know...

….the whole “Gaytes” is a very old and tiresome meme. And honestly it’s not funny and never was. It’s like a 12 year old trying to get a snicker out of his classmates..

Just. Stop. It.

snicker! snicker! tee-hee-hee!

I thought “Gaytes” was HILARIOUS!

I'm sorry

That post was supposed to be sarcastic. I’m not a fan of the gay-bashing either. Perhaps you can come up with an insult that references his suckiness, and then we’ll be in agreement.
