Best farm system
So with all the Peavy talk, we keep seeing how some teams do and don't have the prospects to even make a trade that large. So how do the Braves rank in terms of having the best farm? I'm sure there are rankings out there so where can I find them?
And on a side note, I may be moving to Atlanta in a few months, and as much I'd like to be in town for a season in which we may compete for a title, I think I'm off the Peavy bandwagon, at least as for as trading Hanson is concerned.

We are definitely top 5…up there with Oakland, Tampa, Boston, and Texas. However, I could see us trading a package of prospects for a pitcher (Greinke?).

I’d say optomistically top 5, easily top 10. But the real strength of our farm system is evident by how quickly we have recovered from gutting the system in the Teixeira trade. If we still had those guys, the farm system would just be sick. No doubt #1 overall I think.

Top 5 for sure...
the high end talent alone is enough to put us in the top 10 (Hanson/Heyward/Schafer/Flowers/Freeman), but the depth is excellent as well.

I’d rate San Francisco, Oakland, Tampa, and Texas at least as superior. Boston maybe, but they lack any high level guys besides Anderson.

San Fran
I’m not sure that I’d put San Francisco above Atlanta, to be honest. They have two elite level prospects in Villalona (who’s still incredibly raw, but at the same time extremely young, so he has plenty of time to grow, and has shown positive signs and seems to have unlimited power potential) and Bumgarner, who’s arguably one of the top 2 or 3 pitching prospects in the game. They also have a very good prospect in Buster Posey, who’s almost guaranteed to be an above-average ML catcher. Below that, though, there’s not a whole lot to speak of. While they might have the edge in elite, sky-is-the-limit upside people, I don’t think they have the depth to compete with Atlanta.
I’ll agree that Oakland, who seems to have an incredible stockpile of arms, is above Atlanta, along with Texas, who’s turned around that farm system in a really short period of time, quite amazing actually.
Boston’s got tons of toolsy, high upside outfielders, and some decent pitching prospects, but like you said, they really lack any impact, high-level guys except for Anderson.

Alderson, Bumgarner, and Posey are all top 25 prospects. That’s kind of the deal breaker for me. We can’t match the high level premium players.
The Braves have ridiculous depth though, probably better than any team other than Boston and Texas.

Boston has a great prospect site…its probably my favorite fan site, even though I hate the Red Sox…www.soxprospects.com

Probably not top 5
I think people who think we are “obviously” top 5 are not so infomred about other systems. We may be borderline top 5 if you consider our incredible depth, but most prospectors will probably not go that deep and rate us from 6-10.

Somewhere in the #6 - #10 Range...
Which is plenty fine, especially after all the histerical nonsense about us burning the farm…
