Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Last Night's Game

Anyone have an assessment?  We're creeping into the Dog Days where a lot of teams slip away and the cream really begins to rise.  Therefore, I am going to jack up my criticism of my beloved Braves!  Please don't take to much offense!:  It was a tough loss, especially considering the Phils and Mets won.  Nice pitching by James (though he really does keep his pitches up once he hits ninety or so, right?  he got away with a few) We faced a good starter having a great game, and he  pitched Renteria and C. Jones beautifully.  My criticism really lies on Salty who HAS to get that run in.  I know it's baseball and it's tough but I think it was a very poor at bat.  (Did you hear that Diaz was nine for nine in getting the runner home from third with less than two outs?  That really amazing.)  Anyway, the other guys have to kick it up to that level right about now.  Francuoer really delivered with that double and playoff teams don't waste clutch hitting like that.  The Mets are starting to play like the good Mets and we've drifted to four back.  Time to get serious.  I love this time of year when we're in contention and loved watching those late games all week.  Cheers.

Good assessment.
Salty really choked there, especially after Diaz had a beautiful at-bat to get him to third.  James looked pretty good and I'm starting to get a lot of confidence in him as an above average third starter.

I'm worried about Buddy today.  I feel a Bonds homer coming on, but ONLY ONE.  At least we haven't given up the record...yet.

Why
Just curious as to why Salty always gets bashed. Wasnt it the stud KJ that made the last out by striking out also?  Why no mention of him?

they can't be perfect everytime..
... but i think the idea is that all salty needed to do was get the ball in the air to the outfield (i know, easier said than done), whereas johnson was left up there with only one way to get frenchy home:  a basehit.

i guess it would have been nice for one of them to at least get the bat on the ball and give us a chance. but these things happen. a lot of pressure up there, especially on these two young guys.

If we can take 3 of 4
I'll be much happier with the game last night.  Those kind of games happen...our bats just went cold.  However, if we only manage a split of the two games, then I'll be a bit more annoyed.  We need to win series.

Yup..
...since the Mets lost already today.

Good.
I don't want them getting too hot.  Yeah, I'm not giving our boys a hard time about their bats last night.  They ran into a great performance.  It's just that we've been on the crap end of pitching performances like that (Hudson) and good teams seem to take advantage of hits like Francouer's double.  Anyway, a win tonight is needed.  Like you, I think Bonds goes yard.  It happens.

Yikes
Just noticed out light hitting lineup tonight:  Thorman, Woodward...  Chipper sitting.  I'll have faith.

Not Bashing Salty
too much over here. Not trying to run him out of town or anything like that. I like him... I know he's young and it's not simple to get it out of the infield, etc.  The point is that a team like ours, on the bubble, absolutely needs to take advantage of those opportunities and the teams that do generally separate themselves from the also-rans.  Maybe Salty K'ing there (On an awful pitch chin-level - or a great pitch, depending on how you look at it) will pay dividends down the road and he'll do things different.  See, we lost tonight and split the series when we really could have taken three of four.  Oh well.  Not the apocalypse or anything but it'd be nice to take advantage of all the opportunities we possibly can.  Again, Diaz is nine for nine getting the runner home in the same position.  We can't expect that but that's really incredible and amazingly clutch.
