Game Time: 8:05pm on

Hudson once again didn't have his best stuff, but a lot of those hits had eyes. Let's hope the injury he suffered when a ball went off his shin doesn't keep him out too long. The bullpen really picked Tim up, though. Peter Moylan once again proved that he deserves to be up here and that his flexibility to be a long reliever when needed is invaluable. He has thrown two-plus innings eight times this year. This was the third time he's gone three innings, and the second time he's picked up a win doing so. Andruw, Renteria, and Harris really stepped it up today with some big hits. McCann and Thorman also had key hits in the Braves victory.

John Smoltz will skip his start on Sunday night to continue to rest his inflamed right shoulder. In his place the Braves have recalled Buddy Carlyle, who actually never left Atlanta in anticipation of subbing for Smoltz. It seems as though Carlyle could stay in the rotation with Lance Cormier being placed back on the disabled list.

Holy Shit!
They threw Ted Lilly out of the game with two outs in the first inning after he had hit Renteria with the pitch. Rene took exception and the benches cleared, but I certainly don't think it warrnted being thrown out. I'm actually in agreement with Jon Miller and Joe Morgan - what the hell! Very weird moment.

And then Renteria tries to take out their second baseman on a steal attempt. This game could get ugly, fast.

by gondeee on Jun 10, 2007 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

i wish that
rent wouldn't have done that on the steal. it leaves things unsettled, and puts the players' minds on something other than the game.

and the only explanations i can think of for lilly getting thrown out are:

  1. hudson's picth wasn't necessarily intentional (soriano leans all over the plate anyways), but lilly's most likely was.
  2. every pitcher entering the game was warned last night, and so maybe it was understood that both team's know the deal for tonight.
for the record, i don't think lilly should have been thrown out either. i'm not really trying to justify the ump's decision, just thinking of possible explanations.
