The Answer To All Our Problems
So apparently Heap went back to his dad's headquarters on Sunday night, to finally complete the training, and now he's awesome again. One down, one to go, though Andruw's problems may be more profound than Heap's ever were.
Could Heap's dad help Andruw, too?
~~
Andruw: /strikes out
Andruw: /grins at umpire suggestively, shrugs
Andruw: "It's not a big deal."
Andruw: /pops out on the first pitch
Andruw: /shrugs
Andruw: "I just go out there and play the game."
Terry: /punches the dugout railing in frustration
Terry: "Taking it from the cage to the game is really big!!"
Andruw: /grounds into a double play
Andruw: "You can't think about that stuff because it's only going to make it worse!"
Terry: /punches Andruw
Andruw: /stumbles into the clubhouse, disoriented
Andruw: /hallucinates, sees Andres Galarraga
Big Cat: Andruw.
Andruw: (weakly) Big . . . Cat?!
Big Cat: Look, man. I was like you once were. Sort of. In Colorado, anyway. Some power hitters are going to strike out a lot. Everyone accepts it at this point. But this is just getting ridiculous.
Big Cat: You will go to Duluth.
Andruw: Du . . . luth?
Big Cat: There you will learn from Howie, the coach who instructed Heap.
Big Cat: /fades
Andruw: Big Cat . . . Big Cat!
~~
The following day, Andruw drives out to Duluth in one of his giant cars, featuring satellite TV and a voice-controlled navigation system, among other things. It is basically a sophisticated robot on wheels.
Female Voice: Please check the course you have set.
Andruw: /smiles
Andruw: There's nothing wrong, Car. We're not going to Burger King today. We're going to some warehouse in Duluth. Ah, there it is.
/doors automatically lock
Andruw: I'm sure it's perfectly safe for custom luxury automobiles!
/the car suddenly powers down
Andruw: What the hell!! How am I supposed to park without the navigation system?! Ahh!
/crashes into a pond
Andruw: /gets out of car
Andruw: /hugs car
Andruw: If you thought coming here was a bad idea, I'm beginning to agree with you! Oh, Car, what are we doing here? It's like . . . something out of a dream, or, I don't know. Maybe I'm just going crazy!
Andruw: Now all I have to do is find this Howie . . . if he even exists.
Andruw: I guess I might as well eat lunch while I'm here!
Andruw: /gnaws on beef jerky
Andruw: Still, there's something familiar about this place. I feel like . . . I don't know . . .
Older and Balder Version of Heap: /Pops up from behind the car
OBVH: Feel like what?!
Andruw: Like we're being watched!
Andruw: /wields bat
Andruw: /swings bat at mysterious stranger
Andruw: /falls over
OBVH: Away with your weapon! You're just embarrassing yourself!
Andruw: /gets up unsteadily
Andruw: Back off, man! I'm looking for someone.
OBVH: Looking? Found someone, you have, I would say, hmmmm?!?!
OBVH: /nibbles at the beef jerky
Andruw: Put that down! Hey, that's my lunch!
OBVH: How you get so chunky, eating food of this kind? I read somewhere that you dieted in the offseason, whatever happened there?
Andruw: How did you know that?? Are you one of my many fans? Or are you this dude I'm looking for?
Howie: You are too old to begin the training.
Andruw: But I've learned so much!
Howie: Like hell, kid! When's the last time you really listened to anything poor Terry said?
Andruw: I know, but . . . things are worse than usual, I need help! I won't fail you! I'm not afraid!
Howie: Oh, you will be. You will be.
~~
Meanwhile . . .
Heap: /three run homer
Frenchy: /waits at home plate
Frenchy: YAY HEAP!!
Heap: /extremely wounded look
Frenchy: ((OH MY GOD))
Frenchy: ((HE SAW ME HUG SALTY!))
