Two-Out Mania for the Braves

Stay connected for news and updates

This year we have seen an uncanny ability by the Braves to score runs with two outs. The Braves lead the NL in runs scored with two outs and as you might imagine have many batters who are also at the top of the league with 2-out RBI. What is the reason for this clutch hitting I wonder? While our record is 24-14, our win expectancy (based on runs scored verses runs surrendered) is 21-17. So we are likely playing a bit worse than our record reflects, but most of that can be attributed to hits in key situations, some lucky comebacks, and the ability to win the close ones. But nothing reflects the hitting ability of this 2007 Braves team more than the amount of runs we've been able to score with two outs.

This is a table of the 2007 National League 2-out RBI leaders (through games of 5/14):

Rank Player 2-Out RBI
1 Jeff Francoeur, ATL
22
2 Kelly Johnson, ATL
16
2 Carlos Lee, HOU
16
4 Bengie Molina, SF
14
5 Chase Utley, PHI
13
6 Andruw Jones, ATL
12
6 Jose Reyes, NYM
12
8 Edgar Renteria, ATL
11
8 Scott Thorman, ATL
11
8 Miguel Cabrera, FLA
11
8 Shawn Green, NYM
11

Of course, we could have used a few more of those from Andruw last night in the ninth.
