Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
On behalf of Gondeee and SB Nation, I'd like to wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday! Thank you for helping Talking Chop grow.
Martin has done an incredible job of bringing the Atlanta Braves closer to the fans, more so than I could ever have done. Thank you for making this a community where we can talk about the Braves, debate ideas, and discuss the game we love. Just take a look at the comments of the last post and you'll see what I mean. Excellent job. Keep up the great work!
As I'm about to disappear for a day or so, I'd like to leave you with a new question of the day...
PED accusations aside, does David Justice belong in the Hall of Fame?
Here are some highlights of his career:
- Named National League Rookie of the Year in 1990
- From 1991-2002, each of his teams advanced to the postseason
- He provided the Braves a World Series clinching homer in their Game 6 win over the Indians at Atlanta Fulton-County Stadium in 1995
- Played 15 season, hit .279 with an OBP of .378 and a SLG of .500. He collected 305 home runs and 1,571 hits

A fine player, but worthy of the HOF
Justice - .279 BA, 305 HR, 1017 RBi
Dale Murphy - .265 BA, 398 HR, 1266 RBi
Jim Rice - .298 BA, 382 HR, 1451 RBi
On the surface, DJ's numbers are slightly lower these the other two, but similar. But when you compare how DJ stacked up to his peers, you'll see he never won an MVP and only finished in the top-5 of MVP voting twice in his career. Murphy was the best player in his league twice and Rice won 1 MVP while finishing in the top-5 6 times. In addition, Murph won 5 Gold Gloves and 4 Silver Sluggers and was a 7-time All Star, Rice won 2 SS and was an 8-time All Star, while Justice won 2 SS and was a 3-time AS.
It is very difficult to compare players of different eras against each other, but you can compare how well a particular player did against his competition. Rice and Murph were greats of their day. Justice was just a really good player. No Hall for DJ!

MVP's are useless
Dale's no Hall of Famer, and Justice isn't even close. Dawson and Rice aren't either, though both are at least close. Rock Raines should get in, though...but he probably won't.
