Curtains
It was said by a commenter several days ago on this blog that because the Braves keep barely hanging in there, we wish they would just "shit or get off the pot." Well, they have officially been kicked off the pot.
They are now closer to the bottom of the division than they are to the top of the Wild Card. With six teams between Atlanta and a Wild Card berth, the odds of us coming back are out of sight.
So what should our goals be for the rest of the season?
- Try, try, try to finish at or above .500. How depressing is that statement for Braves fans?
- We need to spend the rest of the season seeing how Willy Aybar and Martin Prado each handle a full-time job. And with Chipper Jones and Marcus Giles both ailing, they could very well be in the starting lineup the rest of the way.
- Let the kids pitch, and keep Chuck James and Kyle Davies in the rotation. I would even consider recalling Anthony Lerew and giving him a start or two. With the postseason all but out of the question, time to give your future players some much needed experience. Obviously this bullet point may conflict with the first one.
Oh well, once every 16 years something like this is bound to happen...
Atlanta 1, N.Y. Mets 4 at Shea Stadium
Atlanta Record: (66-72)
N.Y. Mets Record: (85-52)
Winning pitcher - Dave Williams (5-3)
Losing pitcher - John Smoltz (12-8)
SV - Billy Wagner (35)
Atlanta 0, N.Y. Mets 8 at Shea Stadium
Atlanta Record: (66-73)
N.Y. Mets Record: (86-52)
Winning pitcher - Oliver Perez (3-11)
Losing pitcher - Kyle Davies (2-5)
