It's a Rainy Night in Georgia
It seems like it's rainin' all over the world. Well, it did rain for three hours, but the damage by St. Louis was already done. Albert Pujols was held in check, but the bottom of the Cardinals order was not. In his first start June 14th, Braves starter John Thomson looked like he could have used a rehab start or two before he returned to the rotation. Thomson looked like an amateur on the mound, allowing seven hits and three walks en route to a five run outburst in three plus inning from St. Louis. His record is starting to look Sosian at two wins and seven losses.
Edgar Renteria is watching his stroke return as he faced his old club again Tuesday. He went 2-2 with two walks and now has a nine game hitting streak. Marcus Giles led off the game for the Braves with a solo homerun off of Cardinals starter, and last year's Cy Young award winner, Chris Carpenter. Despite having plenty of opportunities, especially after Carpenter left after the fifth inning rain delay, the Braves offense could only muster one run off the Card's bullpen.
After Thomson's departure in the forth due to ineffectiveness, the Braves bullpen continued its good work of late, allowing only one run the rest of the way. Kevin Barry got in another game and pitched two innings of spotless relief to go along with good outings from Tyler Yates and Oscar Villarreal.
Chuck James will take his unblemished record to the mound tonight against the averageness of Jeff Suppan; that is if the game can be played. There is a 50% chance of rain at game time with scattered t-storms expected. Since this is the last game that St. Louis is scheduled to play in Atlanta this year, they will do everything they can to get it in, so expect another loooong night; although, the rain is not expected to let up until Thursday afternoon.
St. Louis 6, Atlanta 3 at Turner Field
St. Louis Record: (45-37)
Atlanta Record: (36-48)
Winning pitcher - Chris Carpenter (7-4)
Losing pitcher - John Thomson (2-7)
SV - Jason Isringhausen (25)

Meh
I kind of like the rain- my lawn has pretty much died with how dry it has been these days. However, I wish I didn't have to stay up until 2 AM to finish watching the game.
Smoltz said we needed to go 2 and 8, right? This is loss #2. Here's hoping we can win 5 straight to cap it off before the all-star break. I'd be thrilled if we can finish up less than 10 games back from the Mets, but the chances of that are slim.
And, boy, Thomson has been stinking the past month and a half. What in the world will we do with him?
