Thorman

Looks like Thorman might work out.  We'll see what happens when NL pitchers get used to him.  But a .500 slugging after his ice-cold start with only 6 K's in 58 AB is nice.  I'd like to see more walks and bit more average.  But his .795 OPS (through wed; 1.194 in July) compares favorably to Langerhans .744, Frenchy's .728 and even Diaz's .813.

Now if we can only get the team to hold on when Smoltz pitches . . .

Thor
I have been a fan of thor's for a couple years. I loved kelly johnson in the same way, just always felt they would produce. I think our offense would look great with Thor at 1b and Kelly in left (unless Laroche has finally learned focus and he can keep up his current hot streak).

Yeah...
he's better than Langerhans and Diaz, but then again, nearly every left fielder in baseball with a regular starting job is. He deserves a chance, as he does have tremendous raw power and if he can harness it and get a bit of discipline at the plate he'll be a real assett.

Smoltz isn't similar to Eckerlsey. He's better. Much better.
