TBS Dead?

According to Maury Brown at Baseball Prospectus, part of the new TV deal MLB cut is that TBS will stop showing any Braves games nationally! Is this true? Am I going to have to buy MLB TV or something to get my increasingly rare fix? It's bad enough that I only get a tiny fraction of the games anymore now that Time Warner has seen fit to move the team to Turner South and other channels I can't get. The national following this team once had that TW has chipped away at for year, is going to collapse.

Man, I hate Time Warner. From America's Team to local channel 87 backwater. Disgraceful. It's almost like they are trying to ruin the team.

It's all about money

The reason they have to keep shifting games away from TBS is because MLB kept jacking the rent on nationally televised games. Back when Turner started putting games on TBS it cost virtually nothing to televise a game nationally, so why not do it. But over the years as baseball has tried to squeeze more money out of national telecast games, they have had to make them more and more exclusive by making them more expensive to air. Basically, it's not at all cost effective for TBS to continue to exclusively air Braves games. If they wanted to keep baseball they had to go out and get an all team package from MLB. Although, they are allowed to show an amazing 19 games of any one team per season. For comparison, ESPN is only allowed to show five this year and six next year on Sunday night baseball. So we still might see a lot of Braves games. Other than that, yes, you will have to break down and buy the MLB Game Pack.
